In MLM software, an e-pin activates an account or order, the e-wallet records every commission and deduction as a ledger entry, and payouts go to each member’s own KYC-verified bank account after admin approval. The safe design ties every e-pin to a real product order and keeps the wallet for earned commission only.
This guide is for founders and admins who are planning or replacing MLM software in India. We are Coded Idea, an MLM software company in Mohali (Sector 127), near Chandigarh, with 100+ software projects delivered. We build e-pin, e-wallet and payout modules into our MLM software development projects. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.

What an e-pin does, and where it goes wrong
An e-pin is a one-time code. The admin generates pins in batches, often per package or product. A member enters the pin to activate an account, upgrade a package or place a repeat order. Pins are popular because offline distributors can pay a leader in cash and still activate a member online.
The risk is what the pin pays for. If a pin only buys entry, and commission is paid because someone bought a pin, the plan starts to look like a recruitment scheme. The Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021 are widely reported to bar charging an entry or subscription fee. So the software should link every pin to a product order, with an invoice, and pay commission on that order’s business volume.
E-pin features worth asking for
- Batch generation by package, with a pin stock report for the admin and for leaders.
- Transfer rules: who may transfer pins to whom, and whether a transfer needs approval.
- Expiry and cancellation, with a refund that removes the pin from stock.
- A full trail: created by, transferred to, used by, used for which order, on which date.
How the e-wallet should work
Think of the wallet as a bank passbook, not a number on a screen. Each commission run adds credit lines. TDS, admin charges and reversals add debit lines. A withdrawal adds a debit line and a payout record. The balance is the sum of the lines, so nobody can quietly edit it.
| Date | Entry | Credit | Debit | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Pairing commission (cycle 14) | 1,000 | 1,000 | |
| Day 1 | TDS on commission (rate set by your CA) | 20 | 980 | |
| Day 3 | Reversal: order refunded | 100 | 880 | |
| Day 7 | Withdrawal to own bank account (approved) | 800 | 80 |
The figures are illustrative only. Your TDS rate, threshold and admin charge are settings your CA should confirm, because tax rules change.
Wallet top-ups: some systems let members load money into the wallet and pay others from it. That means your company holds members’ money, which may bring in RBI rules on prepaid payment instruments (see rbi.org.in). A commission-only wallet is the simpler design. Ask your CA or lawyer before adding top-ups.
A payout run, step by step
- Close the cycle. The software locks orders for the period, so late changes go to the next cycle.
- Calculate. The plan engine works out each member’s commission, caps and carry forward. Our binary commission calculator shows the pairing part.
- Preview. The admin checks totals and outliers before anything is credited.
- Credit wallets. Commission, TDS and charges post as ledger lines.
- Approve withdrawals. Requests from KYC-verified members are approved and exported as a bank or UPI payout file.
- Reconcile. The payout register is matched with the bank statement and shared with your CA.

Frequently asked questions
What is an e-pin in MLM software?
An e-pin is a one-time code generated by the admin panel. A member or sponsor enters it to activate an account, a package or a product order. Good software records who created the pin, who received it, who used it and against which order.
Is selling e-pins as a joining fee legal in India?
The Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021 are widely reported to bar charging an entry or subscription fee. An e-pin that only buys entry, with no real product, is a red flag. Tie each pin to a product order and take legal advice on your plan.
What is an e-wallet in MLM software?
It is an internal ledger for each member. Commissions are credited, deductions such as TDS and admin charges are debited, and withdrawals are paid out to the member’s verified bank account. Every line should be a dated ledger entry, not an edited balance.
How should MLM withdrawals be paid?
Through admin-approved withdrawal requests, paid by NEFT, IMPS or UPI to the member’s own KYC-verified account, with a payout register your CA can reconcile. Fully automatic payouts are possible, but most companies keep an approval step.
Can members load money into the MLM wallet?
They can in some systems, but holding members’ money and letting them pay others may bring in RBI rules on prepaid payment instruments. A commission-only wallet that pays out to the member’s own bank account is the simpler design. Ask your CA or lawyer before adding top-ups.
How much does MLM software with e-pin and wallet cost?
At Coded Idea, ready-to-launch MLM software starts from ₹15,000 and custom MLM software from ₹35,000. E-pins, e-wallet, KYC and payout reports are part of the core platform; final price depends on your plan rules.
