Short answer

Good MLM software does five jobs without mistakes: it places every member in the right spot in the tree, calculates commissions exactly as your plan says, pays them from a ledger you can audit, keeps KYC and TDS records for your CA, and shows the member and the admin the same numbers. Everything else — apps, replicated sites, e-commerce — sits on top of those five.

Use the checklist below to mark what your business needs. It tells you whether a ready-to-launch build (from ₹15,000) is likely to fit or whether your plan needs a custom build (from ₹35,000; crypto MLM from ₹30,000 / ₹45,000), and lets you send the list to us for a fixed written quote.

Most MLM software demos look alike: a dashboard, a genealogy tree, a wallet. The differences show up later — when a refund has to reverse a commission, when a member disputes a payout, or when your CA asks for a TDS report. This checklist is written from the questions we ask when we scope MLM software for businesses in Mohali, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR and across India. It is not tied to any one plan type: it works for binary, matrix, unilevel, generation, hybrid and crypto MLM plans.

1. Compensation plan engine: the part that decides every rupee

The plan engine turns your compensation plan into numbers. The test is simple: ask the vendor to change a level percentage or a daily cap while you watch. If that needs a developer and a new release, every future change to your plan will cost you time and money. In a good engine, percentages, pair ratios, caps, rank rules and the overall payout ceiling are admin settings.

The second test is the payout preview. Before any money moves, the admin should see the full run — who gets what, which caps applied, what TDS was deducted — and approve it. A preview catches plan errors before they turn into disputes with your leaders.

If your plan uses standard rules with your own values, a ready-to-launch build can usually be configured for it. If you have commission rules of your own, or more than one plan running together, plan for a custom build. Our ready-to-launch vs custom comparison explains the difference.

2. Genealogy and placement: who sits where, and why

Most member complaints in a growing network are placement complaints: “I was supposed to be on the left leg”, “my sponsor changed”. The genealogy tree should be searchable, show both sponsor and placement, and keep a history. Corrections should be possible — mistakes happen at joining — but only by an admin, and every correction should be recorded with who made it and when.

Decide the placement rules before development starts: automatic placement, the member’s choice of leg, or spillover to the weaker side. In binary plans this decides pair matching; in matrix plans it decides when a level fills. Also decide what happens to inactive members: do their earnings roll up to the next active upline (compression), or are they lost?

3. E-wallet, payouts and reversals

An MLM e-wallet is an accounting ledger, not just a balance. Every credit (commission, bonus), deduction (TDS, admin charge) and withdrawal should be a separate entry, so a member’s balance can always be explained line by line. Withdrawals should wait for admin approval, and bank payouts by NEFT, IMPS or UPI should produce a payout register your accounts team can reconcile.

The feature most often missing from cheap software is the reversal: when an order is refunded or cancelled, the commission paid on it should be reversed automatically, up the whole chain. Without it, refunds slowly turn into losses. For crypto plans, also decide whether payouts are made in USDT or your own token and whether a smart contract handles them; see crypto MLM software.

4. KYC, TDS and records for your CA

Before the first payout, check the member’s PAN and bank account. Deduct TDS on commission inside the software, not in a spreadsheet afterwards, and give your CA reports that match the payout register. If you sell products, product orders need GST invoices. Ask your CA which rates and returns apply to your business; the software’s job is to apply the rules you set and keep records that hold up later.

Every report — payout registers, rank history, sales — should export to a spreadsheet. If you can’t get your own data out easily, you are locked in.

5. Products, repurchase and business volume

Most Indian networks are product-based, so the shop is part of the MLM software. Each product should carry business volume (BV or PV) that feeds the plan. If active status depends on a monthly repurchase or autoship, the software should track it and apply it before each payout. Networks with franchisees, stockists or pickup centres also need stock and billing at those points.

6. Member back office and app

The member dashboard is where trust is won or lost. Members should see earnings, team, wallet and rank progress — and those numbers must match what the admin sees. Add an Android or iOS app, replicated sites or referral links, and Hindi or a regional language where your members need them; these are common requests that change the scope, so list them early.

7. Admin control, security and audit

Turn on two-factor login for admin and members, give accounts, support and super-admin separate roles, and keep an audit log of who changed which setting. When a leader disputes a payout three months later, the audit log is how you answer. If you are moving from other software, plan the migration of members, trees and wallet balances as its own task, with a test run before the switch.

Red flags when you compare MLM software demos

  • Commissions are calculated in a spreadsheet outside the system “for now”.
  • There is no payout preview: runs go straight to members’ wallets.
  • Changing a percentage or cap needs the vendor.
  • Refunds don’t reverse commissions.
  • Reports can’t be exported, or the vendor won’t say how you get your data out.
  • The price was fixed before anyone read your compensation plan.

MLM software checklist: questions buyers ask

What features should MLM software have?

At minimum: an admin-editable plan engine with a payout preview, a searchable genealogy tree with placement history, a ledger-based e-wallet with approved withdrawals and refund reversals, PAN and bank KYC with TDS on commission, a member dashboard that matches the admin view, two-factor login and an audit log. Products with BV, apps and replicated sites depend on your business.

Is ready-to-launch MLM software enough for a new network?

Often, yes, if your plan is a standard binary, matrix, unilevel or generation plan configured with your own values. Coded Idea’s ready-to-launch MLM software starts from ₹15,000. If you have your own commission rules or run more than one plan together, you need a custom build, from ₹35,000.

How much does crypto MLM software cost?

At Coded Idea, crypto MLM software starts from ₹30,000 ready-to-launch and ₹45,000 custom. The final price depends on the payout method (USDT or your own token) and whether payments run through a smart contract.

What should I send to get an accurate quote?

Your compensation plan (even a rough document), the features you ticked above, whether you sell products, the number of members you expect in the first year and any software you are moving from. With that we can tell you which build fits and give a fixed written quote.
